“Expanding scientific research in the Dutch Caribbean UoC/NWO information & network event: new developments and opportunities”

Good news

Earlier this year, the Dutch Research Council NWO has changed its granting rules. As a result, universities in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom qualify for NWO research funding. Scientist from these institutions can now act as main or co-applicants within all NWO calls for proposals. We would like to inform you about these new opportunities and discuss their implications with you.

Funding program

NWO has recently published a call for proposal to establish two large research programs in the Dutch Caribbean. This is a continuation of the program which had funded a number of research projects in 2014 and 2016. The new program aims at creating more focus and impact and to foster continuity of research efforts on the islands. We would be happy to discuss aspects and implications of this approach with you.

Research agenda

NWO has taken the initiative to hold an online public consultation on research needs in the Dutch Caribbean. Inhabitants and organizations from the six islands had the opportunity to fill out a simple survey, thereby letting us know what they consider the most urgent research questions. We will present the first preliminary results and ask for your input.

Networking

Several scientists and young professionals will also share their results and experiences. There will be ample opportunity for networking in an informal setting.
